Lunch Time is an app designed to help combat childhood food insecurity. It gives parent volunteers the opportunity to drop off school lunches, for children who sign up to receive lunches. Donations are tracked as a competition, to increase involvement in the program.
PROBLEM:
13 Million Children in the U.S. live in food-insecure households. Suffering from food insecurity can have serious negative impacts on children’s performance and behavior in school.
SOLUTION:
Create a platform that gives parents with abundant resources an opportunity to provide school lunches to children from food-insecure households. In turn, reducing the shame around food insecurity.
Each teacher has a designated drop-off box. Every time a parent donates a lunch, a gold coin is added to a container, to track the number of lunch donations in comparison to other schools.
Next Steps would be to partner with elementary schools around the US to develop individual systems for lunch drop off and pick up. Set a quarterly goal to get people involved in the program. Partner with local businesses to give out rewards for accomplishing the goal.
